New Studio Build [Page 5]

November 24, 2009 No new pictures today but got the baseboards on.  Tom (my builder) brought over his nail gun and miter saw and we got them on in no time at all.  I put some caulk on them and then did some touch-up painting.   Tomorrow I need to re-paint the baseboards one last time.  Also did some more basic clean-up around the place and then went fabric shopping -- not very manly sounding -- but its to cover the OC-703 I picked up yesterday.

Been really busy the past couple days.  I moved the bass traps to the new studio and these have become the "corner traps".  The old ones were a neutral color and the "bass bags" I had were sort of white., so I covered the entire corner with black fabric.   That's my 12 foot ladder I scored on Craigslist for $80!

Next I took my 4 "Ready Bags" that I had ordered in gray for my old room and covered them in black fabric too.  Really only the front and sides are covered and then pinned with safety pins on the back side.  Two of these are on the ceiling and the other two on the wall above the AC unit and above the door.

I've also been assembling some 2" thick absorbers in my garage.  For these I'm using spray adhesive to affix black fabric, then I use some liquid nails glue to tack a piece of foamboard on the back.  I also sandwiched some "hooks" in between the board and the 703.  Then I will hang these like a picture behind the mixing desk.

Funny thing...  I went to buy some black fabric and found some cotton sheet-like material (44" width) at Walmart for $3/yd.  But they also sold twin sheets which were 7ft long and 66" width for $4 each.  So I bought a bunch of these sheets and that's what I'm using to cover all these things.  They are probably not flame retardant, but fit the budget.  There will not be any candles or smoking in my studio anyway...

Finally, started moving the equipment into the new studio.  Some pictures of the desk being assembled.  Tomorrow I will wire up and then start moving drums.

Well, another busy day moving stuff into the new studio.  Got the DAW setup and was able to play a few "reference" tunes.  I must say it sounds pretty good.  I can hear a lot more low end without even turning on the subwoofer.  I also got the drums setup but only partially mic'ed up.  They sure sound sweet in this room though.

You can also see the absorption I put up on the back wall.  My Hangings hooks didn't work the first try so I had to stuff them back in and re-glue them with Gorilla glue -- that seemed to do the job.   A few rugs on the floor too.  It's starting t look like a real studio!
