New Studio Build [Page 4]
|
November 14, 2009 |
The brick
work is now done and it looks great. The painters
are going to be doing the exterior on Monday (if it
doesn't rain). I also noticed that the painters
messed up and did the interior with flat paint although
I had asked for satin, so I think they are going to have
to shoot one more coat on the interior again. The
interior is called "Mexican Chile" and is a slightly
orange red. The trim is "double chocolate" and is
a medium brown.
On
Monday the air conditioner is supposed to be installed
but that's probably not going to work if the painters
have to repaint. After that, then the electricians
will finish out the outlets, switches and panel and the
building will be just about done. Then I will be
installing the flooring. |

I didn't
get home in time to get a picture today (now its dark)
but the air conditioner was installed today. I
have to say that this is the first crew that I have been
unhappy with - not sure about the actual HVAC yet since
it won't have power until after the electricians come
tomorrow. The problem I have with them is that
they cut a hole - in my double sheetrock wall -
then just screwed it back on. That really messes
up the sound isolation that I was trying to get by
installing double sheetrock! I understand if something
got covered over and they had to get to it, but to just
cut a hole, do a horrible job patching it up and then
not tell anyone about it - Uggghh!
But the
painter was here and repainted the interior with satin
paint (instead of flat). Also the foundation guys
came back and put the underpinning on the part of the
slab that showed. |

Today the
exterior was painted. We also hung the door and
hopefully it will get stained tomorrow. Above you
can see the outside condenser unit for the "Mr Slim"
HVAC.
The
electricians started finishing things off. They
showed up with all white fixtures but after seeing the
paint they suggested maybe we go with all black - so
they went and got all black and I think it will look
pretty good.
Sheetrock to be repaired tomorrow... |

Well,
construction is now done. We are going for the
final city inspection tomorrow. You can see from
the picture that it is very RED!! Actually it
looks pretty good. The black fixtures look good
too. Baseboards will go on after the floor is
down. Too bad I couldn't get the "Mr. Slim" in black -
you can see it on the far wall.
Painters finished up today - you can see where the patch
was on the wall. This picture was from yesterday -
you can no longer see it. I put the door hardware
on today too.
After
the inspection I will be scraping the floor and then
putting down the laminate. Once the floor is down
then its time to tame this room a bit - still lots of
reverb. I also have a 20yd dumpster in
my driveway so time to take out the trash! And the
Port-O-Let should be gone soon too! |

I haven't
posted in a few days because I've been very busy.
I started Friday night scraping the floor. Then,
Saturday morning started laying down the laminate
flooring. I completed the floor on Sunday morning.
If you do this wear knee-pads. I only thought of
that on Sunday and my knees are black and blue!
Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon and Monday morning
were all spent moving the construction trash pile to the
20 yard dumpster. It didn't look so big on the
ground but you can kind of get a perspective when you
see it in the 6' x 16' dumpster! I moved about 95%
of this trash myself. We had budgeted $500 for
labor and I opted to save that and do it myself - but
now I'm a hurtin' unit!
Tomorrow we put the baseboards on. I also picked
up 96sf of OC703 (that's 12 x 2'x4' 2" sheets) today.
May pickup some fabric tomorrow too if I have time. |
