New Studio Build [Page 3]
|
November 01, 2009 |
The roof
(shingles and a ridge vent) went on yesterday.
There was some confusion with the contractor at first as
it appears he under-scoped the project. But we
worked it out. Now at least if it rains
again it should stay dry on the inside. This week,
if things go well, we are hoping to get electrical and
insulation installed. |

The electricians were here today and wired the place up.
The weather is really nice now, but when I called my
builder this morning I found out he was in the
hospital and may have to have emergency gall bladder
surgery--ouch! We are wishing him a very
speedy recovery (and not just because I need him for
this project...). :-)
I also
ordered the brick and my flooring today so the old
credit card is getting a workout. |

The studio is now insulated. R19 in the walls and
R30 on the ceiling. You can see the 2x6 blocks on
the back wall. That's where the blower for the
split-ductless A/C will hang.
Right
now it sounds really weird - like an anechoic chamber
but that will soon change. We are hoping to get
another city inspection tomorrow and then sheetrock can
be installed. |

The insulation inspection passed this morning, so
sheetrock should get hung tomorrow. I picked up my
floor laminate and underlayment today and it's now
waiting in my garage.
I also
can't believe that my builder stopped by to check out
"his job site" - only hours after he was released from
the hospital after undergoing surgery yesterday!
Seriously, this guy is dedicated and I've been really
impressed by how attentive he has been to the job.
That is also why we are moving along at light-speed.
We will probably be done in another two weeks or less
(although I still have to do the floor then). |

Two layers of 5/8" Sheetrock now up as well as taped and
floated. I asked the guys to stagger the seams as
best as they could and caulk the seams and corners too.
I used
DAP Dynaflex 230 -- I
know it's not green glue but not only do I have a budget
to keep within, I don't have any adjoining rooms to
worry about. I think this is going to be pretty
good as is. I chose this caulk because of the
"permanently flexible" spec. I also looked at some
OSI Quad caulk but it specifically stated "for exterior
use" only.
The
electricians were also here today and dug a huge trench
from the main electrical panel to the sub-panel on the
studio. Looks like 2" pvc conduit in the hole.
I can't
believe how quickly this is going along! |

Well, I haven't update this in a couple days because the
changes were pretty subtle-- until today. In the
past couple days its been fixing up the sheetrock
tape/float and a few other miscellaneous things.
Today they shot the texture on the interior walls.
And the masons were to start the brick work too.
Some
people have inquired about the gap between the brick and
the exterior wall. Here's a shot of that where you
can hopefully see there is about a 2" air gap in there.
We
passed the inspection for the buried electric too, so
tomorrow will see more brick, electric, and I hopefully
talk to the painter about the interior colors. |
